Health and Physical Education-Curriculum (Prep and Up)

At VISS, we recognise that regular physical activity contributes not only to improved performance in the classroom but also to the overall health and wellbeing of our students. Through a balanced Health and Physical Education programme, students develop essential motor skills while also building confidence, leadership, social skills, and strategic thinking capabilities.
In addition to practical activities, theoretical health classes are a vital component of the programme. These lessons provide students with the knowledge to make informed decisions regarding their personal, social, and emotional wellbeing. Developing these areas supports students in building the confidence to make thoughtful choices, manage challenges responsibly, and understand how to take care of themselves and others.
A highlight of the programme is the opportunity for students to participate in interschool competitions across a wide range of sports. Both boys and girls represent VISS Central Region in friendly yet competitive fixtures against other VISS schools, developing their skills, resilience, and teamwork while fostering school spirit. Students also take part in morning training sessions that help prepare them for matches, build discipline, and support their overall fitness. These experiences encourage healthy competition, pride in achievement, and a lifelong enjoyment of sport.

PMP (Pre-KG to Prep)

A key component of the programme in the early years is the Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP). PMP is specifically designed to improve coordination, balance, spatial awareness, and physical confidence through carefully structured movement activities. Children engage in obstacle courses, balance tasks, ball skills, and sequencing activities that link physical movement with cognitive development. By strengthening skills such as concentration, memory, and body control, PMP lays the foundation for success not only in sport but also in academic learning. This programme helps young learners to connect movement with thinking, setting them up for growth and achievement across all areas of the curriculum.

House System

The House System at VISS Central Region is a central part of school life, creating a strong sense of belonging and encouraging students to contribute to their community. Every student is allocated to one of four houses – Falcons, Gazelles, Leopards, or Scorpions – from the moment they join the school. This ensures that students immediately feel part of a team and can take part in house activities from the very beginning of their school journey.
House Captains are selected from Grade 5 upwards to lead their peers, represent their house, and foster team spirit. They work alongside teachers to organise and run house events, while also modelling leadership, responsibility, and commitment to the school values.
Students are awarded house points throughout the day for demonstrating positive behaviours and living out the school values of community, diversity, and integrity. These points are collected and celebrated regularly, creating a healthy sense of pride and competition.
House competitions take place throughout the year and include a wide range of activities designed to develop teamwork, confidence, and resilience. These include sporting challenges, talent shows, chants, reading competitions, scavenger hunts, and incentive-based events. Major whole-school occasions such as Sports Day bring houses together in friendly rivalry, giving students opportunities to test themselves, celebrate achievement, and strengthen bonds with their peers.
The House System is more than just competition; it is designed to help students grow as individuals while learning the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and perseverance. By balancing fun with responsibility, the system builds school spirit and provides opportunities for every student to succeed and contribute.
